We run Australia as an equal market to New Zealand rather than a side project — the business is Melbourne-based as well as Auckland-based. The process is the same. The numbers are not.
What stays the same
The Japan side does not care where the car is going. The car is bought through LogiNet in yen, with a fixed ¥250,000 agency fee for cars up to ¥2,000,000, converted at the day's exchange rate. Shipping and import entry levies are AUD $1,950. Transit is three to four weeks, same as New Zealand.
GST is 10%, not 15%
Australian GST is 10%. As in New Zealand, it applies to the landed value — the vehicle plus the cost of getting it there — not to the hammer price on its own.
Our import fee is flat
A flat AUD $1,000, whatever the car. For cars over ¥2,000,000 in Japan, the agency fee moves up a tier — talk to us and we will confirm the exact figure before you bid.
Compliance is the real difference
New Zealand has a single entry certification step with a known fee. Australia does not — the pathway depends on the scheme the vehicle comes in under and on the state you land in, and the cost varies with it.
We will not put a figure on that here, because there is no single figure to put. It is confirmed as part of your quote once we know the car and the state.
Every figure here is an estimate, not a quote. The calculator runs the Australian model with your own numbers and shows you exactly which lines are confirmed and which are not.
